Material Matters: Picture, Paper and Play with Odette England

The Griffin Museum is thrilled to offer this online workshop with renowned lens-based artist, Odette England. This class is intended to help photographic artists of all levels experiment widely and wildly with photographs as material, including working with collage, archival imagery, photomontage, and image appropriation. Participants will learn processes and techniques for creative “picture-play”. They will join in class activities such as, readings, journal writing, presentations, film screenings, debates, discussions, and more.

Times: Five sessions, online, via Zoom, 12:30pm – 3:00pm, EST

Course Fee: $545 members / $595 non-members (non-member tuition includes a one year membership to the Griffin Museum, a $75 value).

About the Instructor:

Odette England is an Anglo-Australian visual artist and writer. She is a 2022 Guggenheim Foundation Fellow and has received awards from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, Puffin Foundation, and Anonymous Was a Woman, among many others. She has published three award-winning photo books and has another three coming out before fall 2024, having won the 2022 Tall Poppy Press Award and a Polycopies Publishing Grant. England graduated from the Rhode Island School of  Design in 2012 and received her Ph.D. in Art & Art History in 2018. Odette England
